For release Thursday, 23 August, 2007 : As industry voting in the 21st ARIA Awards, proudly brought to you by Motorola, comes to a close FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, and industry tickets about to go on sale MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, we’re counting down the days until the Australian music industry’s big night.

Over 1,000 members of the Australian music industry will have cast their vote and the much anticipated final five nominations in each category (apart from Highest Selling Single and Album) will be announced WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19 at the ARIA nominations event to be held at Sydney Theatre. This event will also feature the presentation of this year’s ARIA Artisan Awards for Producer of the Year, Engineer of the Year, Best Cover Art and Best Video.

There are 29 ARIA Award categories, 14 voted by the entire voting academy, 12 judged by specialist judging schools, 2 by audited record sales and a special final Hall of Fame induction. This is made up of a number of areas in the industry such as Record Companies (15%), Radio (13%), Print (12%) and Retailers (11%).

In a significant change to the eligibility criteria for this year’s Awards, digital sales are now eligible to be included for the purposes of determining the ARIA Awards for Highest Selling Single and Album.  Finalists for these Awards will not be announced until early October to allow all digital sales to be collated.

Just over 7,000 tickets for the 21ST ARIA Awards will go on sale to the general public (all ages) at 12 noon on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, and these are expected to go quickly and sell to capacity. This year’s ARIA Awards will feature a total of 9 live performances from a selection of Australia’s finest recording artists.  The coveted performance slots along with special guest presenters will be announced after the ARIA Awards Nominations Event on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19.

And all roads lead to the grand finale in the ARIA calendar of events for 2007 when the ARIA Awards will unveil the remaining 20 category winners. The 21st ARIA Awards, proudly brought to you by Motorola, recognises excellence and innovation in all genres of Australian music. The ARIA Awards will be held on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28, at Acer Arena, Sydney Olympic Park and will be telecast by broadcast partner Network Ten from 8.30pm that night.

There will also be a half hour red carpet special broadcast from 7.00pm where two awards will be announced and one of the sought after performance spots will happen.
