Old Mervs debut in the top 5

Sabrina Carpenter reclaims the top spot of the ARIA Albums Chart this week, giving Short N’ Sweet its 12th non-consecutive week at #1 while Aussie rock band Old Mervs land at #4 with their self-titled debut album.

The Perth duo of David House and Henry Carrington-Jones reached #33 in 2023 with the EP Give It Up. The band is named after their childhood dog Mervin.

Selena Gomez debuts at #5 with I Said I Loved You First, her first collaborative album with fiancé Benny Blanco.

Selena peaked at #14 in 2011 as Selena Gomez & The Scene with When The Sun Goes Down. As a solo act, she reached #8 in 2013 with Stars Dance, #3 in 2015 with Revival and #1 for one week in 2020 with Rare. For Benny, it’s his second charted album: he got to #39 in 2018 with Friends Keep Secrets

The Cat Empire are new at #18 with Bird In Paradise. It’s the 10th album from the Aussie jazz/funk band. Six of their albums have cracked the top 10, including two #1 peaks: Two Shoes for one week in 2005 and Rising With The Sun, also for one week, in 2016. Bird In Paradise is the second album since the original line-up changed in 2021.

On the Singles Chart, singer, social media star and influencer Alex Warren lands his first #1, as Ordinary steps up from #4 last week. He reached #30 last year with Carry You Home (solo version or featuring UK singer Ella Henderson); that track hits a new peak of #20 this week. Ordinary has gone to #1 in the UK and parts of Europe and is the lead single from his upcoming album You’ll Be Alright, Kid (Chapter 2)

The announcement of Teddy Swims’ Australian tour in October sends several of his songs back up the chart. Lose Control, which peaked at #4 last year, rises from #22 to #14, The Door is up from #36 to #26 (it has been as high at #19) and Bad Dreams climbs from #45 back to a new peak of #27.
