Releasing fourth album Notes On A Conditional Form, British band The 1975 claim their second #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart (more below).
Former #1 Artists Unite For Fire Fight jumps from #36 to #24.
Ahead of the likely debut of Lady Gaga’s Chromatica next week, the A Star Is Born soundtrack re-enters the Top 50 at #46.
Debuts:
#1: The 1975 ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’ – British band The 1975 take out their second ARIA Charts #1 album with Notes On A Conditional Form. The quartet’s fourth studio album is the follow-up to A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (#4 Dec. ’18). It features guest vocals by FKA Twigs, Phoebe Bridgers and Greta Thunberg in amongst its 22 tracks. The 1975 first topped the chart with I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It (#1 Mar. ’16). Notes On A Conditional Form is also #1 on the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart this week.
#2: Agust D ‘D-2’ – BTS member Suga makes his first solo appearance on the ARIA Charts, as he releases D-2, his second mixtape under then Agust D name. The release comes four years on from his first self-titled mixtape. As a member of BTS, Suga topped the Albums Chart earlier in the year with Map Of The Soul: 7 (#1 Mar. ’20).
#4: KSI ‘Dissimulation’ – British rapper/actor/YouTuber KSI releases Dissimulation, his debut album. The release features a host of guests including Offset, Lil Pump, Trippie Redd, Rick Ross, Lil Baby and more. Prior to the album, KSI had released four EPs and a collaborative album with fellow rapper Randolph.
#17: Gunna ‘Wunna’ – Releasing second album, Wunna, American rapper Gunna makes his ARIA Top 50 debut. The album comes just over a year on from Gunna’s debut album, Drip Or Drown 2 and features collaborations with Roddy Ricch, Young Thug, Travis Scott and more.
#21: Benee ‘Fire On Marzz / Stella & Steve’ – Benee hits the ARIA Albums Chart for the first time with Fire On Marzz / Stella & Steve. The album is an amalgamation of the New Zealand singer-songwriter’s first two EPs - Fire On Marzz and Stella & Steve - both released in 2019. The former features the single ‘Glitter’ (#20 Mar. ’20), while the latter includes Benee’s first Top Ten single ‘Supalonely’ (#8 Apr. ’20). Its appearance on the chart comes on the back of a vinyl release. It debuts at #5 on this week’s ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart.
#23: Caligula’s Horse ‘Rise Radiant’ – With fifth album Rise Radiant, Brisbane progressive metal band Caligula’s Horse take out a new ARIA Albums Chart peak. The album comes three years on from In Contact (#50 Sept. ’17), their first Top 50 entry. Bonus tracks on Rise Radiant see the band covering Peter Gabriel and Split Enz.
#26: Donny Benet ‘Mr Experience’ – Sydney artist Donny Benet makes his Top 50 debut with fifth studio album, Mr Experience. It’s the follow-up to the multi-instrumentalist’s 2018 album The Don. He released his debut, Don’t Hold Back, in 2011. As well as his solo work, Benet has contributed to work by the likes of Jack Ladder and Sarah Blasko.
#33: Custard ‘Respect All Lifeforms’ – Brisbane indie-rock legends Custard make their first appearance on the ARIA Albums Chart in more than 20 years with Respect All Lifeforms. The album is the band’s third studio release since reforming in 2009, following 2015’s Come Back, All Is Forgiven and 2017’s The Common Touch. Custard last charted with Loverama (#19 Jun. ’99). Respect All Lifeforms debuts at #3 this week on the Vinyl Albums Chart.
#39: The Seekers ‘Hidden Treasures – Volume 1’ – ARIA Hall Of Fame members The Seekers hit the chart with the rarities collection Hidden Treasures – Volume 1. The album brings together alternate versions, live tracks and jingles recorded by the folk group, most of which haven’t been previously issued officially. It’s the first in the series of three Hidden Treasures volumes that will be released.
