Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) and Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA) mourn the passing of Australia’s Grand Lady of Country Music, Joy McKean OAM.
ARIA and PPCA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “Joy’s contribution to the Australian songbook as both a recording artist, songwriter and manager is nothing short of incredible. Her recorded works dating back to the 1940s with the McKean Sisters, as well as the tracks written for her husband Slim, have spanned generations and inspired countless artists. For over 50 years the partnership of Joan and Slim was responsible for more than 100 albums and 45 Golden Guitars. She was a true icon of Australian music and will be sorely missed.”
