On the ARIA charts this week: Lady Gaga storms onto the chart at #1 with Mayhem, Jennie makes it two consecutive weeks that a Blackpink member has debuted in the top 5 – and speaking of Blackpink – Rosé ties for the fourth longest-running #1 song ever.
Mayhem is Mother Monster’s fifth chart-topper here and her 13th album to reach the top 50. She spent three weeks at #1 in 2010 with The Fame Monster, two weeks in 2011 with Born This Way, 11 weeks in 2019-20 with the A Star Is Born soundtrack, and two weeks in 2021 withChromatica.
Jennie arrives at #2 with her first solo album, Ruby. She is the third member of the Korean supergroup to score a top 10 album: Rosé hit #2 in December with Rosie and Lisa landed at #5 last week with Alter Ego. Blackpink has racked up two #2 albums here: The Album in 2021 and Born Pink in 2022.
American singer-songwriter Daniel Seavey debuts at #7 with his first full-length album, Second Wind. He was a member of the boy band Why Don’t We, which reached #10 in 2018 with 8 Letters and #2 in 2021 with The Good Times And The Bad Ones.
The Cruel Sea return with Straight Into The Sun, new at #18. It’s their seventh studio album and first since Where There’s Smoke in 2001. The winners of eight ARIA Awards, the legendary Aussie rock band has scored two top 10 albums: The Honeymoon Is Over reached #4 in 1993 and Three Legged Dog hit #1 in 1995.
The Wiggles go country and arrive at #40 with Wiggle Up, Giddy Up!. The album features duets with a swag of country music stars including Dolly Parton, Lainey Wilson, Dasha, Orville Peck, The Wolfe Brothers, Troy Cassar-Daley and the late Slim Dusty.
Since 1991, The Wiggles have released 62 studio albums, three live albums and 11 compilation albums. Their highest charters have been ReWiggled, which reached #1 in 2022, and Nursery Rhymes 2 and We’re All Fruit Salad! The Wiggles’ Greatest Hits, both of which reached #3 in 2018 and 2021. They have won 17 ARIA Awards and were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2011.
On the Singles Chart, Rosé and Bruno Mars’ APT. holds at #1 for the 14th non-consecutive week. It ties with ABBA’s 1976 hit Fernando as the fourth longest-running #1 song ever, sitting behind Ed Sheeran’s Shape Of You (15 weeks in 2017), The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s Stay (17 weeks in 2021-22) and Tones and I’s Dance Monkey (24 weeks in 2019-20).
Bruno is also at #2 as his duet with Lady Gaga, Die With A Smile, rebounds from #7 to its previous peak thanks to the release of the latter’s new album Mayhem.
GRAMMY winner Doechii has the highest debut of the week, arriving at #9 with Anxiety. It gives her three tracks in the top 20: Anxiety by Sleepy Hallow featuring Doechii is at #19 and her solo track Denial Is A River is at #18.
Anxiety was recorded by Doechii in 2019 and is sampled in Sleepy Hallow’s hit. Both versions sample Gotye and Kimbra’s Somebody That I Used To Know, which spent eight weeks at #1 here in 2011 and also topped the charts in more than 20 other countries including the US and the UK.
