It’s the fourth straight week with an Australian act at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart this week as Cold Chisel's 50 Years – The Best of debuts at #1.
This week marks the longest run for local acts at #1 since late 2020, when Midnight Oil, Kylie Minogue and AC/DC ruled for a combined six weeks. But the last time there were four or more different Aussie acts at #1 consecutively was all the way back in 2015, when Parkway Drive, triple j Like A Version 11, Boy & Bear, Hillsong and 5 Seconds Of Summer ruled for five weeks.
50 Years – The Best of is the Cold Chisel'’s 18th top 10 album and their sixth chart-topper. Formed in Adelaide in 1973, they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1993.
ARIA CEO, Annabelle Herd, said: “It’s a big day for chart numbers… Huge congratulations to Cold Chisel for a phenomenal sixth #1 and 18th top 10 album. It’s an extremely exclusive club of artists who can rival the band’s storied legacy and impact on Australian music over 50 years. Congratulations again to the band, their team and everyone who has contributed to such a triumph.
“Speaking of Ausmusic, a nine-year first is absolutely phenomenal. Even in what is perhaps the most challenging environment Australian music has faced, we can still achieve amazing success, which I truly hope excites and inspires our whole industry.”
Elsewhere, country storms the chart again, as Post Malone lands at #2 with his first full country album, F-1 Trillion. The album features a galaxy of country superstars include Dolly Parton, Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Jelly Roll, Hank Williams Jr, Luke Combs and Brad Paisley.
It’s Posty’s seventh album and seventh top 10 placing: Stoney hit #5 in 2016, Beerbongs & Bentleys went to #1 in 2018, Hollywood’s Bleeding topped the chart in 2019, Twelve Carat Toothache reached #2 in 2022, Austin also got to #2 in 2022 and The Diamond Collection peaked at #3 last year.
Falling In Reverse are new at #8 with their fifth studio album Popular Monster. The US rock band’s until now was Just Like You, which peaked at #8 in 2015.
Melbourne-based band Telenova’s Time Is A Flower enters at #23. It is the first album from the trio of Angeline Armstrong, Edward Quinn and Joshua Moriarty.
Perth’s The Southern River Band are new at #48 with their fourth album D.I.Y.
On the Singles Chart, it’s two weeks at #1 for Billie Eilish’s Birds Of A Feather. She was just crowned as the artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify at the moment, attracting 99.1 million listeners from mid-July to mid-August.
