Debuts for Leon Bridges, Middle Kids, Tropical F**k Storm and more!
Byron Bay’s Parkway Drive becomes the fourth Australian act to top the ARIA Albums Chart in 2018, debuting at #1 with their sixth album Reverence.
P!nk’s fifth #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart jumps back up 15 spots to #14 on this week’s chart. Her Australian tour in support of Beautiful Trauma begins in Perth on 3 July.
After jumping 24 spots last week, Sam Smith’s The Thrill Of It All moves up a further eight spots to #16. It’s the album’s 26th week in the Top 50.
Vance Joy’s former #1 Nation Of Two is up eleven spots to #19.
There are big moves up this week’s Albums Chart from Taylor Swift’s Reputation (up seven to #20), Imagine Dragons’ Evolve (up four to #22), Patrizio Buanne’s Italianissimo (up 14 to #26), Dami Im’s I Hear A Song (re-entry at #35)
Debuts:
#1: Parkway Drive ‘Reverence’ – With their sixth studio album, Byron Bay metalcore band Parkway Drive have snared their second #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Reverence comes three years on from Ire (#1 Oct. ’15) and becomes their fifth entry in the ARIA Top Ten, having also charted with Atlas (#3 Nov. ’12), Deep Blue (#2 Jul. ’10) and Horizons (#6 Oct. ’07).
#8: Leon Bridges ‘Good Thing’ – Leon Bridges grabs a second Top Ten album with Good Thing. The American soul artist’s second studio album is the follow-up to Coming Home (#8 Jun. ’15). Bridges recently played a run of dates in Australia, including a performance at Bluesfest in Byron Bay.
#10: Middle Kids ‘Lost Friends’ – Sydney indie rock trio Middle Kids crack the Top Ten on the ARIA Albums Chart for the first time with Lost Friends. The group’s debut album hits just over a year since they made their first chart appearance with their self-titled EP (#26 Feb. ’17).
#25: Tropical F**k Storm ‘A Laughing Death In Meatspace’ – Tropical F**k Storm is a new project formed by Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitschin of The Drones, along with High Tension drummer Lauren Hammell and Harmony vocalist Erica Dunn. Currently on hiatus, The Drones last charted with Feelin Kinda Free (#12 Mar. ’16).
#37: Rae Sremmurd ‘SR3MM’ – American hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd picks up their first entry on the ARIA Albums Chart with SR3MM. It’s their third studio album, coming two years on from previous release SremmLife 2 and three years on from debut SremmLife.
#44: Jon Hopkins ‘Singularity’ – The fifth studio album from Jon Hopkins becomes the English electronic musician’s first Top 50 entry. Singularity is Hopkins’ first studio album in five years. His previous album, 2013’s Immunity, was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in the UK.
#45: Shinedown ‘Attention Attention’ – Attention Attention, the sixth studio album from Shinedown becomes the Florida rockers’ second Top 50 entry. The album is the follow-up to their first Top 50 entry, Threat To Survival (#37 Sept. ’15).
