Second #1 album for Brisbane's Violent Soho

Debuts for Kerser, All Time Low, Thundercat and more!

As they return with their fifth album and first in four years, Everything Is A-OK, Brisbane rock band Violent Soho become the fourth Australian act to debut at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2020.

On receiving the news, the band said “We’re stoked!”
 
ARIA CEO Dan Rosen said: “Congratulations to James, Luke, Luke, Michael and the entire Violent Soho team on their return to #1 on the ARIA Charts. Everything Is A-OK is the album title we all need to believe in right now. It’s an incredible achievement to reach #1, especially by a band who is known for their hard work on the road, and direct connection to their fans. I also want to congratulate Kerser on his sixth Top 5 album in just seven years. It goes to show that despite the crisis, great Australian music finds a way to connect with music fans around the country.”
 
Elton John’s hits collection Diamonds moves back into the Top Ten for a 28th week. In the last week, the music icon hosted and performed in the live-streamed event Concert For America, as well as launching a $1 million COVID-19 emergency fund.
 
Following the film’s free-to-air TV premiere during the week, the soundtrack to The Greatest Showman jumps from #41 to #28.

#1: Violent Soho ‘Everything Is A-OK’ – Releasing their fifth album, Everything Is A-OK, Brisbane band Violent Soho grab their second #1 on the ARIA Charts. It’s the follow-up to Waco, which became their first #1 in March 2016. Their previous album also earned Violent Soho their first two ARIA Awards – winning Best Group and Best Rock Album in 2016. Everything Is A-OK is also #1 on the ARIA Vinyl Albums Chart this week.
 
#3: Kerser ‘Roll The Dice’ – Kerser takes out his seventh Top Ten as he returns with Roll The Dice. The Sydney rapper’s ninth studio album debuts one spot below his all-time chart peak set by previous album Lifestyle (#2 Mar. ’19). Every one of Kerser’s albums since S.C.O.T. (#5 Nov. ’13) has debuted in the Top Ten.
 
#12: All Time Low ‘Wake Up, Sunshine’ – American band All Time Low score their sixth Top 50 entry in Australia with Wake Up, Sunshine. The Baltimore group’s eighth album comes three years on from Last Young Renegade (#5 Jun. ’17). The track ‘Monsters’ features blackbear, who had a Singles Chart hit last year with ‘Hot Girl Bummer’ (#8 Oct. ’19).
 
#30: Testament ‘Titans Of Creation’ – American trash metal band Testament release Titans Of Creation, their first album in four years. The band’s 13th studio album is their second to chart in the ARIA Top 50 after previous release Brotherhood Of The Snake (#24 Nov. ’16).
 
#41: Sam Hunt ‘Southside’ – Country pop artist Sam Hunt makes his Top 50 debut thanks to second album Southside. The singer-songwriter released his debut album, the Grammy-nominated Montevallo, in 2014. As well as his own work, Hunt has written singles for the likes of Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Reba McEntire.
 
#50: Thundercat ‘It Is What It Is’ – Thundercat makes his ARIA Top 50 debut with It Is What It Is. The follow-up to 2017’s Drunk is the fourth album under the Thundercat name by American multi-instrumentalist Stephen Bruner. It features contributions by Childish Gambino, Ty Dolla Sign, Flying Lotus and Kamasi Washington, among others.
