Debuts for A$AP Rocky, Xavier Rudd, Chvrches and more!
With his self-titled third album, Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes scores his first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart (see below).
Taylor Swift’s 1989 jumps up three spots to #9, giving the album a 69th week in the Top Ten.
Continuing to climb back up the chart, the soundtrack to Bridget Jones’s Baby moves eight spots this week to #25.
Bon Jovi’s former #1 This House Is Not For Sale re-enters the Top 50 this week at #39.
Debuts:
#1: Shawn Mendes ‘Shawn Mendes’ – Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes scores his first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with his self-titled third album. The follow-up to Illuminate (#3 Oct. ’16) is Mendes’ second Top Ten entry on the chart. Singles released from the album include ‘In My Blood’ (#9 Apr. ’18), ‘Lost In Japan’ (#27 Apr. ’18) and ‘Youth’ (#19 Jun. ’18). Among Mendes’ collaborators on the album are Ed Sheeran, Julia Michaels, John Mayer and Khalid.
#5: A$AP Rocky ‘Testing’ – Returning with Testing, his third studio album, American rapper A$AP Rocky grabs his third entry in the ARIA Top Ten. The album includes appearances by FKA Twigs, Kid Cudi, Dev Hynes, Skepta, Frank Ocean and more. The track ‘Praise The Lord (Da Shine)’ has debuted at #34 on this week’s Singles Chart. Testing equals previous album At. Long. Last. A$AP (#5 Jun. ’15) as A$AP Rocky’s highest chart peak.
#6: Xavier Rudd ‘Storm Boy’ – With his ninth studio album, Australian singer-songwriter Xavier Rudd takes out a sixth straight Top Ten. Storm Boy comes just over three years on from Nanna (#8 Mar. ’15). To date, Rudd’s highest Albums Chart peak has been with Spirit Bird (#2 Jun. ’12).
#7: Chvrches ‘Love Is Dead’ – Scottish synth-pop trio Chvrches return with third album, Love Is Dead. Following Every Open Eye (#3 Oct. ’15), it becomes the group’s second Top Ten album. One track, ‘My Enemy’, features vocals by Matt Berninger from The National.
#11: Pusha T ‘Daytona’ – American rapper Pusha T makes his first Top 50 entry with Daytona. Produced by Kanye West, the album is Pusha T’s third solo studio album, having previously released four albums as a member of Clipse.
#12: Snow Patrol ‘Wildness’ – Snow Patrol return with their first album in seven years, Wildness. It’s the Scottish band’s seventh studio album and fourth Top 50 entry. They last charted with Fallen Empires (#24 Nov. ’11) and previously topped the chart with ‘Eyes Open’ (#1 Jan. ’07).
#34: Dream On Dreamer ‘It Comes And Goes’ – Melbourne post-hardcore band Dream On Dreamer grab their fourth Top 50 entry on the ARIA Albums Chart with It Comes And Goes. The group’s fourth studio album comes three years on from Songs Of Soulitude (#29 Nov. ’15), their equal highest peak along with Loveless (#29 Jul. ’13).
