Returning with their first album in five years, Red Hot Chili Peppers grab their sixth #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with 'The Getaway'.
This week sees a significant move from Radiohead’s 'A Moon Shaped Pool' (up 46 to #2) following the release of physical versions.
On the back their #1 album, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 'Greatest Hits' continues its rise back up the chart to #4.
Debuts:
#1: Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘The Getaway’ (debut) – Returning with their first album in five years, Red Hot Chili Peppers grab their sixth #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The follow-up to I’m With You (#2 Sept. ’11) gives the Californians their first #1 since Stadium Arcadium (#1 May ’06). They’ve also topped the chart with Blood Sugar Sex Magik (#1 Apr. ’92), One Hot Minute (#1 Sept. ’95), Californication (#1 Jun. ’99) and By The Way (#1 Jul. ’02).
#11: Gojira 'Magma' (debut) – French metal band Gojira pick up a new ARIA Charts peak on the back of sixth album Magma. The album is the band’s second to chart in the ARIA top 50. Their previous best was with L'Enfant Sauvage (#47 Jul. ’12).
#12: case/lang/veirs 'case/lang/veirs' (debut) – The debut album from the new folk-rock supergroup featuring Neko Case, kd lang and Laura Veirs. case/lang/veirs was recorded over the course of two and a half years in Portland, Oregon, sometimes in lang’s loft and others in Veirs' dining room or backyard studio.
#16: Jake Bugg 'On My One' (debut) – The third studio album from Jake Bugg gives the British singer-songwriter his highest ARIA Charts debut. On My One is Bugg’s first album in three years. He’s previously charted with Jake Bugg (#19 Aug. ’13) and Shangri La (#38 Nov. ’13).
#22: With Confidence 'Better Weather' – The debut album from Sydney pop-punk quartet With Confidence. Prior to the release of Better Weather, the band had released two EPs: 2013’s Youth and 2015’s Distance.
#24: YG 'Still Brazy' – Album two from American rapper YG. The follow-up to 2014’s My Brazy Life, Still Brazy is YG’s first album to chart in the ARIA top 50. It features appearances from Lil Wayne, Drake and more.
#32: Soundtrack 'Me Before You' – A week after its cinema release the soundtrack to the film Me Before You hits the ARIA Charts. The album features tracks from The 1975, Imagine Dragons and Jessie Ware, as well as the Ed Sheeran hit ‘Photograph’ (#9 Jun. ’15).
#46: Bob Evans 'Car Boot Sale’ – Jebediah’s Kevin Mitchell returns to his Bob Evans guise for fifth album, Car Boot Sale. The follow-up to Familiar Stranger (#34 Mar. ’13) is the fourth Bob Evans to chart in the top 50. The highest-charting to date was Suburban Songbook (#15 Jun. ’06).
