Newcastle’s Rum Jungle debut in the top 10

This week on the ARIA Albums Chart, Canadian star Tate McRae blasts onto the chart at #1 with her third album, So Close To What, while NSW’s Rum Jungle debut at #9 with Recency Bias.

Recency Bias is the very first album from the Newcastle natives, who have sold out shows in the UK, Europe and Australia.

For Tate McRae, So Close To What marks her first #1 and third top 10 album: I Used To Think I Could Fly stopped at #10 in 2022 and Think Later peaked at #2 in 2023.

Three tracks from the new album had already charted before this week: It’s OK I’m OK and 2 Hands both peaked at #14 last year and Sports Car hit #10 earlier this month. This week Sports Car rebounds from #25 to #9, while It’s OK I’m OK re-enters at #37 and 2 Hands returns at #40.

The new album includes I Know Love, a duet with Aussie boyfriend The Kid Laroi, which debuts at #17. It’s The Kid Laroi’s 11th top 20 hit. All up, Tate scores nine tracks in the top 50 singles chart this week.

English singer Sam Fender also delivers his best chart result to date, debuting at #17 with his third studio album, People Watching. He reached #62 in 2019 with Hypersonic Missiles and #46 in 2021 with Seventeen Going Under. Both topped the UK albums chart.

Aussie singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts is new at #18 with his sixth album, New Love. He reached #9 in 2018 with Laps Around The Sun and #27 in 2021 with Searching For Freedom.

On the Singles Chart, after a four-week break Rosé and Bruno Mars reclaim the #1 spot, giving APT. 12 non-consecutive weeks at #1 since late October last year. It’s the song’s fourth spell in the top spot, having been interrupted by songs from Gracie Abrams, Mariah Carey, Lola Young and Kendrick Lamar.
