Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) holds at #1 for the eighth consecutive week on the ARIA Albums Chart, while Jack Harlow takes the unique title of first new artist in six years on top of the Singles Chart during the week of Christmas.
1989 (Taylor’s Version) is now the longest running #1 album of 2023, moving ahead of Taylor’s own Midnights, which was on top for seven non-consecutive weeks between January and July.
Re-entering at #2 is Violent Soho’s Hungry Ghost. It’s the 10th anniversary reissue of the Aussie band’s third studio album, which peaked at #6 the first time around and was their first top 10 album. Violent Soho went on to have two #1 albums: Waco in 2016 (which won the ARIA Award for Best Rock Album that year) and Everything Is A-OK in 2020.
Michael Bublé’s Christmas bounces up from #8 to #4. It first hit #1 in 2011 and has been back there another five times, for a grand total of 15 weeks on top. Last Christmas it peaked at #2.
Australian hip hop group Bliss N Eso’s third album Flying Colours re-enters at #15. It peaked at #10 in 2008. They have had three #1 albums – Running On Air in 2010, Circus In The Sky in 2013 and Off The Grid in 2017 – and won two ARIA Awards.
On the Singles Chart, it’s six straight weeks at #1 for Jack Harlow’s Lovin On Me, which ruins a potential six-year streak for Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You, which has been at #1 the last five Christmas weeks.
Including Mariah at #2, three of the top five are Christmas songs, Wham!’s Last Christmas comes in at #4 and Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree at #5. Ariana Grande’s Santa Tell Me and Michael Bublé’s It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas step back into the top 10 at #7 and #10 respectively.
