J. Cole's KOD debuts at #1

Debuts for A Perfect Circle, Samantha Jade, Pennywise and more!

With his fifth studio album, KOD, American hip hop artist J. Cole has taken out his first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

Avicii has three re-entries in this week’s Top 50 after the Swedish DJ/producer’s passing at the age of 28. His debut album True re-enters the Albums Chart at #13; it spent one week at #1 in February 2014. Further down the chart, Avicii has also re-entered with second album Stories (#39) and the EP Avici (#41).

Lorde’s Melodrama re-enters this week at #30. It’s the 30th week in the Top 50 for the New Zealand singer-songwriter’s second album.

Playing a run of shows through the country in the last week, Halsey returns to the chart at #37 with Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.

Also touring, Harry Styles is back in at #44 with his self-titled debut album.

Having started her national tour, Dami Im re-enters at #49 with I Hear A Song.

Just prior to the start of their Australian tour, The Killers creep back into the chart at #50 with Direct Hits.

Debuts:

#1: J. Cole ‘KOD’ – American hip hop artist J. Cole scores his first ever #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with KOD. Cole’s fifth album is the follow-up to 4 Your Eyez Only (#6 Dec. ’16). Five tracks from KOD have debuted in the ARIA Top 50 this week: ‘KOD’ (#20), ‘ATM’ (#32), ‘Photograph’ (#41), ‘Kevin’s Heart’ (#46) and ‘Motiv8’ (#47).

#2: A Perfect Circle ‘Eat The Elephant’ – A Perfect Circle return with their fourth studio album and first in 14 years, Eat The Elephant. The American band, who reactivated in 2010, previously charted in the Top Ten with Mer De Noms (#2 May ’00), Thirteenth Step (#3 Sept. ’03) and Emotive (#8 Nov. ’04).

#6: Samantha Jade ‘Best Of My Love’ – Samantha Jade takes on disco classics on Best Of My Love. It’s the former X Factor winner’s third album and comes three years on from Nine (#11 Nov. ’15). The new album features songs made famous by Donna Summer, Diana Ross, ABBA, Sister Sledge and more.

#18: Pennywise ‘Never Gonna Die’ – Veteran punks Pennywise release their twelfth album Never Gonna Die. It’s the Californian’s ninth appearance in the ARIA Top 50 and first since Yesterdays (#16 Jul. ’14). To date, Pennywise’s highest peak has been with Straight Ahead (#8 Jun. ’99).

#31: Kimbra ‘Primal Heart’ – Kiwi singer-songwriter Kimbra returns with her third studio album, Primal Heart. It’s her first album in four years, following on from The Golden Echo (#5 Aug. ’14). Primal Heart had originally been scheduled for release in January but got pushed back.

#38: Sting & Shaggy ‘44/876’ – Sting and Shaggy join forces for the Caribbean-inspired album 44/876. It’s Sting’s first appearance in the Top 50 since 57th & 9th (#9 Nov. ’16) and Shaggy’s first since Hot Shot (#2 Jun. ’01).

#47: TesseracT ‘Sonder’ – With their fourth studio album, British prog band TesseracT make their debut in the ARIA Top 50. Sonder comes three years on from the quintet’s previous album, Polaris. In 2016 they released the EP Errai.
