Debuts for Bruce Springsteen, Shawn Mendes, Tash Sultana and more!
Michael Rosenberg, aka, Passenger, debuts at #1 on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart with Young As The Morning Old As The Sea (see below).
The tenth anniversary reissue of My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade (#3 Nov. ’06) becomes the week’s highest re-entry at #15.
There’s been solid moves back up the chart this week by Ed Sheeran’s X (up 20 to #17) and Delta Goodrem’s Wings Of The Wild (up 24 to #18).
As Vance Joy performs at the AFL Grand Final, Dream Your Life Away returns to the top 50 at #41.
Debuts:
#1: Passenger ‘Young As The Morning Old As The Sea’ – The seventh studio album from Michael Rosenberg, aka, Passenger, becomes the British singer-songwriter’s first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Young As The Morning Old As The Sea is the follow-up to Whispers II (#17 Apr. ’15) and includes the single ‘Anywhere’ (#43 Sept. ’16). Passenger’s first two top 50 appearances peaked at #2: All The Little Lights (#2 Apr. ’13) and Whispers (#2 Jun. ’14).
#2: Bruce Springsteen ‘Chapter And Verse’ – A career-spanning album from Bruce Springsteen that’s been released as a companion piece to his autobiography Born To Run. It contains The Boss’ earliest recording from 1966 and early songs from pre-fame groups The Castiles, Steel Mill and The Bruce Springsteen Band along with his first 1972 demos for Columbia Records and songs from his studio albums from 1973 until 2012. Springsteen’s last studio album to chart was High Hopes (#1 Jun. ’14).
#3: Shawn Mendes ‘Illuminate’ – Just over a year on from debuting with Handwritten (#18 Apr. ’15), Shawn Mendes picks up his first top ten appearance with Illuminate. The Canadian’s second album features the singles ‘Treat You Better’ (#4 Jul. ’16) and ‘Mercy’ (#22 Oct. ’16).
#9: Australian Cast Of Dream Lover Feat. David Campbell ‘Dream Lover - The Bobby Darin Musical’ – Soundtrack to the new David- Campbell-starring musical based on the life of Bobby Darrin, opening in Sydney this week. Dream Lover features 16 of Darrin’s hits including the title track, ‘Splish Splash’, ‘I've Got the World On a String’, ‘Call Me Irresponsible’ and ‘If I Were A Carpenter’.
#11: Tash Sultana ‘Notion’ – The ARIA Charts debut for singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana. The 21 year old Melbournian first made a name for herself in her hometown by busking.
#13: Airbourne ‘Breakin' Outta Hell’ – Album four from Airbourne gives the Victorian rockers a new peak on the ARIA Albums Chart. Breakin' Outta Hell is the follow-up to Black Dog Barking (#17 May ‘13), which was their previous chart peak.
#25: Every Time I Die ‘Low Teens’ – American hardcore band Every Time I Die pick up a new charts peak with Low Teens. It’s the Buffalo band’s eighth album and third to chart in the top 50. It follows on from From Parts Unknown (#32 Jul. ’14).
